What is Black Nitrate?
Themicrohardness is higher than the base stainless steel, keeping goodductillity beneath the hard nitrided layer. The surface finish issmoother than with chromed stems, resulting in less friction betweenstem and guide.
The nitrite adheres to the base metal at a microscopic level, so it does not flake or break off.
Valve seat surface is harder with the nitrided layer, lasting longer with lead free fules.
